SUMMARY:MVTM + New York Comic Con PANEL! Where Were You in 1992? A Look Back at Iconic Music Videos
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of some of the most iconic videos ever\, Managing Editor of MUSIC VIDEO TIME MACHINE Stephen Pitalo will interview music video directors & former MTV personnel about their music video experiences in 1992. Complemented by actual music videos on a big screen\, we’ll turn back the clock to 1992\, when we still could see music videos on television. Yes\, I’m pointing at you\, MTV! \n1992 was a pivotal year in music\, where music video began to mirror the changes in taste\, and several genre suffered growing pains and identity crises. Fortunately for us\, these panelists had a front row seat: MTV VJ and bestselling author Karen “Duff” Duffy will recall her interviews with Beastie Boys\, Ugly Kid Joe\, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and more. Music video director Rich Murray will take us behind the scenes of shooting the Little Band that Could\, aka the Spin Doctors\, as well as grade-school hip hop sensation Kris Kross\, both of which experienced multiplatinum success from their music video exposure. Music video director Paul Rachman gives us the lowdown on shooting clips for Seattle bands Temple of the Dog and Alice in Chains during that early 1990s sea change in rock music that abandoned hair metal for grunge practically overnight.

With the assistance of their high-budget music videos\, the band scored hits like “Undercover of the Night\,” “Rock and a Hard Place\,” and “Anybody Seen My Baby\,” but who knew that Keith Richards’ pirate nature would emerge in the form of threats to the lives of several of these music video directors? Yes\, Music Video Time Machine magazine’s managing editor Stephen Pitalo will show how not just one but THREE separate directors had fearful experiences – some at knifepoint – with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame guitarist\, and the subsequent videos that resulted.
